A dark thunder cloud hangs over the Sunshine State.  It threatens to wipe out tourism to South Beach and bring back jean shorts on men.  Florida Republicans have passed, and Governor Ron DeSantis intends to sign into law, a measure that, according to the mainstream media, has added an eleventh commandment: “Don’t Say Gay.”

Time magazine reports that “Florida Just Passed The “Don’t Say Gay” Bill.”  CBS News intones, “Florida House passes controversial ‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill.”  Across the pond, BBC News tells its viewers that “‘Don’t Say Gay’ bill passes Florida Senate.”  And on it goes.  Sadly for the media, the bill does no such thing.  It bans sex-Ed, including same sex and transgender “instruction,” in classrooms from kindergarten until the third grade, after which Florida’s public schools are instructed to follow state standards and not their own.

But the media has a narrative to advance and voters to stop.  Liberals were horrified when they learned on Election Night 2020 that, according to exit polling, the incumbent President Donald Trump nearly doubled his support among LGBT voters from 14% in 2016 to 27% in 2020.  But they can’t say they weren’t warned that he’d try.  After all, Trump’s big MAGA crowd pleaser and favorite dance tune was, and remains, the The Village People’s disco anthem, “Y.M.C.A.”  As he marveled in a podcast, last week, “Did you ever hear that?  They call it the gay national anthem.”
